ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In *Heart of the Sun*, Buu Chi constructs a human figure in an upright posture, arms raised as if supporting or reaching towards a blazing red sun. The body is created using strong, rough, and decisive black and white blocks; the dense interwoven lines in the background make the space tense, dark, and oppressive. Amidst this color palette, a red circle appears as an absolute focal point, simultaneously suggesting the sun and a glowing heart.
The contrast between the body enveloped in darkness and the red light above places the viewer in a state of both tragedy and hope. The white bird on the chest may suggest peace, freedom, or a spirit transcending suffering. The work doesn't tell a specific story, but rather condenses the desire for life, the will to resist, and humanity's faith in light. Here, the "heart of the sun" is not only a symbol of hope, but also a spiritual force that humanity strives for and awakens from within.
