ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In *The Obsession of Good and Evil*, Buu Chi constructs an almost surreal space where a large, swirling mass resembles an eye, a machine, or a closed loop of motion weighing down on the ground. At the center of the spherical mass is a small dial, suggesting time as an invisible force controlling all choices and destinies. In the distance, tiny figures run along the horizon, further highlighting the fragility of humanity in the face of unnameable powers.
The dark brown, burnt yellow, and cool gray tones create an atmosphere that is both gloomy and tense. A solitary red dot at the top serves as a warning signal, a wound, or a glimmer of conscience remaining in the vast expanse of space. Through the contrast between the heavy mass and the small figures, the work places the viewer in a state of unease about the struggle between good and evil. Here, good and evil do not appear as two separate sides, but as forces that constantly twist, pursue, and haunt human life.
