ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In *The Scream from the Earth*, Buu Chi uses a stark black-and-white contrast to create a powerful image of life being suppressed. The gaunt, twisted, and overlapping figures appear with rough, forceful brushstrokes, as if emerging from a cracked earth. Below, the solid black sphere suggests a chasm, a damaged earth, or a silently suppressed force.

The composition is fragmented by heavy horizontal lines, while the forms above continuously rise, creating a conflict between suppression and resistance. The bare tree on the left further emphasizes the sense of desolation, yet remains a fragile sign of life. The work does not illustrate a specific event; through concise and direct expression, Buu Chi transforms the scream into a physical form, opening up contemplation of war, suffering, injustice, and humanity's yearning to escape the darkness.
