ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In "Wind on the River," Tran Van Thao spreads a gentle blue expanse, upon which patches of yellow, green, and pinkish-purple, along with symbols, numbers, and delicate brushstrokes, appear scattered like sudden movements on the water's surface. The forms don't coalesce into definite images but disperse, drift, and change rhythmically, creating the feeling that space is constantly being stirred by an invisible force.
The combination of acrylic, oil paint, charcoal, and oil pastels creates multiple levels of texture: there are solid patches of color, faint brushstrokes, delicate outlines, and symbols that seem to appear and then quickly vanish. Viewers are placed in a state of light and dynamic perception, not fixed at a single point of view but moving with the rhythms of rising and falling, gathering and dispersing on the canvas. Through this, "Wind on the River" doesn't directly depict the landscape, but evokes a sense of movement, change, and the subtle energy spreading through space.
