ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In *White Spots*, Tran Van Thao creates a profound spatial field using layers of gray-blue, black, and brown, superimposed, scratched, and interwoven by delicate lines. Within this dense surface, a large white area emerges not as a defined form, but as a luminous region gradually opening from within the darkness. A series of red dots running along near the central axis, along with small horizontal dots, create a subtle rhythm, both connecting and disrupting the seemingly stable structure of the painting's surface.
The contrast between the light and dark areas places the viewer in a state of slow observation, constantly fluctuating between seeing an image and realizing it is merely a trace of color and texture. Through the interplay of concealment and revelation, solid and void, *White Spots* evokes associations with memory, fragile presence, and the possibility that light continues to silently form in unnamed depths.
