ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Lê Thị Hiền's "Nếp gấp 4" is a compelling sculptural exploration of form, light, and material. Carved from a solid block of black granite, the artist meticulously crafts sharp, decisive "folds" that disrupt the inherent stillness of the surface, revealing a multifaceted, dynamic spatial interplay. The sculpture not only celebrates the raw yet enduring beauty of natural stone but also invites viewers to contemplate intrinsic movement and the dramatic interaction between light and shadow that generates profound emotional depth. Each facet and angle tells a story of tension and harmony, establishing a powerful statement on geometry and structure within contemporary art.

Lê Thị Hiền

(1957 – )

Born in 1957 in Son La, Le Thi Hien is a Vietnamese female sculptor and art educator. She graduated from the Hanoi University of Fine Arts and earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Montreal (Quebec, Canada). From 1991 to 2012, she taught at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts. Throughout a creative career spanning over four decades, Le Thi Hien has pursued an abstract sculptural language grounded in geometric structures, the interplay between solid and void, and the use of light and negative space. She has participated in numerous exhibitions, creative workshops, and artist residency programs in Vietnam and internationally—including in Hungary, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Malaysia, the Czech Republic, and the United States. Le Thi Hien is recognized as a significant contributor to the development of contemporary Vietnamese abstract sculpture and has positively influenced generations of young artists.
