ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"Countryside" by Nguyễn Thị Hòa is an exquisite lacquer symphony that transports the viewer into the setting of a traditional Vietnamese village. The masterful composition is distinguished by golden branches rising in the foreground; these elements skillfully divide the space while framing a vibrant herd of red cattle and the rhythms of daily life. The lacquer medium is employed with great artistry to create a warm, nostalgic palette—featuring deep greens, earthy browns, and the shimmering gold of the foliage—all harmonizing to perfectly capture the serenity of rural life. The imagery of the cattle, laborers, and children, alongside the ancient village gate, creates a deeply evocative scene that radiates a beauty both rustic and refined, thereby affirming the enduring value of Vietnamese cultural heritage.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

She works primarily with lacquer, exploring familiar subjects such as portraits, landscapes, women, children, and still lifes. In her portraiture, she tends to flatten forms, capturing subjects in private, tranquil, and highly symbolic states of interiority.
