ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Nguyễn Thị Hòa's Portrait of Phuong Mai masterfully transmutes traditional lacquer into a profound inner landscape. The serene composition features Phuong Mai gracefully seated, balanced by the elegant white blanket, vibrant floral patterns on her trousers, and the gentle presence of her pets. A contemplative atmosphere pervades, highlighted by the tranquil interplay of deep blues and greens in the background against the warm accents of the ornamental lamp and botanical motifs. The distinctive cracked texture, inherent to Vietnamese lacquer, imbues the surface with a rich sense of history and unique tactility, elevating the artwork's aesthetic depth. This piece elegantly bridges tradition and modernity, capturing a moment of quiet introspection and sophisticated domesticity.
