ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The artwork "Mounds of Earth in Exile" by artist Truong Cong Tung presents a thoughtful installation where rough, rustic lumps of earth, dyed a vibrant yellow from turmeric powder and ash, are randomly placed on a gleaming metal table. The minimalist composition with a pristine white background highlights the stark contrast between the industrial, cold look of stainless steel and the organic, warm feel of natural materials. Even lighting illuminates and accentuates each line and contour of the "mounds of earth," creating a shimmering reflection on the table, doubling the image and depth of the work. This is not only a masterful use of earth, water, and turmeric powder, but also a powerful metaphor for identity, movement, and nostalgia for one's homeland. Tung has transformed seemingly simple materials into a sophisticated visual statement, prompting profound reflections on the value and place of memory in contemporary space.
