ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In her work, "My Little Happiness," the blue version, Dinh Y Nhi continues to explore the imagery of women's faces as condensed signs of inner life. On a bright background of traditional Vietnamese dó paper, the blue faces are arranged in two rows, creating a gentle, repetitive rhythm that is somewhat quiet. The simplified black strokes retain only the minimal features of the eyes, hair, nose, and mouth, making each figure appear both a face and a fragile presence. The repetition of the faces does not completely diminish the individuality of each figure, but draws the viewer's attention more to the overall rhythm: the faces are close together, similar in structure, yet still exhibit subtle differences in the eyes, nose shape, hairline, or shade of blue. It is these subtle differences that prevent the work from becoming monotonous, creating a quiet emotional space where each face seems to hold its own moment of silence. Titled "My Little Happiness," the blue version evokes a sense of subtlety and indeterminate difficulty. "Happiness" doesn't manifest as radiant joy or a state of complete fulfillment, but rather as small fragments of everyday life: thin, light, repetitive, fragile, sometimes just enough to be noticed. There, faces don't tell a specific story, but retain the echoes of hidden emotions, small joys, and inner states difficult to put into words.
