ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In Performance 2, Phan Cam Thuong constructs the scene using flat, condensed, and rhythmically rich forms. The characters are crowded, leaning and interacting within a color palette of red, purple, brown, and pink, along with contrasting dark green patches, creating a composition that feels both vibrant and compressed. Faces are simplified, gestures are emphasized, especially the bent figure and hands lifting an object in the center, creating a focal point of movement. On the absorbent surface of the dó paper, the colors become soft, deep, and hazy like memory. The work not only recreates a performance but also evokes the empathetic state of the crowd, where sounds, gestures, and festive atmosphere merge into a continuous flow of movement.
