ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In the performance, Phan Cam Thuong organizes the imagery as a layer of theatrical memory emerging on the surface of the do paper. The characters are simplified into flattened, overlapping, and moving figures in shades of reddish-brown, black, and off-white, creating a space that is both lively and ethereal. The rough brushstrokes, the blended colors, and the characteristic absorbency of the do paper transform the scene from a description of a specific event into a rhythm of gestures, sound, and light. The work places the viewer at the boundary between the stage and life, where people are both performers and fleeting figures in the stream of cultural memory.
