ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In his work "Children Playing," artist Nguyen Tu Nghiem has created a world brimming with energy and innocence. Using exquisite lacquer, the artwork displays a warm color palette, primarily reds and earthy yellows, creating a vibrant yet serene space. The bustling, graceful composition of children gathered together, each line strong and decisive like folk carvings, evokes movement and joy in the moment. The highlight is the sparkling golden star in the center, not only a visual light but also a symbol of dreams and the wonder of childhood. The artwork not only recreates a scene of daily life but also profoundly portrays pure beauty, community cohesion, and optimism, demonstrating Nguyen Tu Nghiem's masterful talent in combining traditional identity with a modern touch.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nguyễn Tư Nghiêm

Nguyễn Tư Nghiêm

(1922 – 2016)

Nguyễn Tư Nghiêm (1922-2016), an esteemed member of the "Four Pillars" of Vietnamese modern art, was a master at reconfiguring folk art into a rhythmically vibrant and distinctly modern visual language. His compelling works, often executed in lacquer and gouache, are characterized by their evocative rhythmic lines, ingeniously distorted folk forms, and symbolic flat colors, culminating in a unique artistic realm where the profound depths of national tradition seamlessly merge with contemporary expression.
