ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Phan Hoài Niệm's "Sen và tĩnh vật 1" is a delicate ode to serene beauty, masterfully rendered in watercolor on silk. The painting unveils a world of profound introspection, where familiar objects—a majestic dragon-motif ceramic vase, a rustic teapot, and an array of vibrant fruits—are arranged with exquisite care. The harmonious and balanced composition imbues a sense of tranquility. A warm, ethereal color palette, characteristic of the medium, subtly combines with nuanced washes and pristine white splatters, evoking the ephemeral beauty of morning dew or falling lotus petals. This work transcends a mere still life; it is a visual poem, encapsulating the essence of Eastern spirit and a nostalgic appreciation for traditional Vietnamese aesthetics.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Phan Hoài Niệm (Phan Niệm)
(1971 – )Born in 1971 in Hue, Phan Niem graduated from the Hue College of Fine Arts in 1998 and is a member of the Hue Fine Arts Association. He has remained steadfastly dedicated to silk painting, viewing silk not merely as a medium but as an aesthetic language through which to transform the cultural and historical memories of Hue into imagery. His notable creative projects include *Still Life and Lotus* (2015–2026), *Vietnamese Princesses* (2017–2022), *Lotus Maiden* (2019–2023), and *Wild Garden Corner* (2019–2025). Phan Niem’s artistic world brings together lotuses, female figures, antiques, Hue gardens, and echoes of the imperial court, all rendered through soft hues, gentle contours, and an atmosphere of stillness. His paintings are distinguished by a harmony between nature and culture, the everyday and the imperial, the present and memory; together, they create a feminine, elegant beauty rich in the depth of time.
