During the period 1954-1975, art criticism in South Saigon witnessed a spectacular transformation. Deeply integrating Western philosophies such as Existentialism and Structuralism with Eastern consciousness, a new system of terminology transformed art into a stage for expressing the human condition in the face of war. This theoretical foundation simultaneously established the international standing of applied lacquer painting, creating a unique and mature identity for the Vietnamese art language.
