ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In the Tomb of Tu Duc, Ton That Van doesn't emphasize the majestic grandeur of a mausoleum, but rather focuses on the tranquility, antiquity, and poetic beauty of Hue's architectural space. The tiled roofs, corridors, gates, and trees are arranged in layers, creating depth while maintaining a sense of intimacy and seclusion. A few slender, elongated figures appear amidst the scenery, making the architecture not only a historical monument but also a repository of life's traces and memories.

The muted, muted shades of gray, earthy brown, and silvery white create a scene shrouded in the mists of time. The lines are somewhat slanted, soft, and not entirely conforming to realistic perspective, thus giving the entire scene the appearance of a memory rather than a geographical record. The work places the viewer in a slow pace of observation, thereby evoking a sense of the serene beauty of the heritage, where nature, architecture, and history quietly blend together.
